Overview
• Wilderness International needed a scalable IT solution to support their growing team across Germany, Canada and Peru.
• Limited in-house IT expertise led to challenges in system maintenance, security updates and remote support during critical field expeditions.
• deeploi’s IT-as-a-Service provided reliable, responsive support and security expertise, allowing the team to focus on their mission of preserving threatened ecosystems.
IT Challenge
Wilderness International, a non-profit organization founded in 2008, is dedicated to protecting the world’s most ecologically valuable and threatened wilderness areas. With a team of 20+ staff spread across Germany, Canada and Peru, their work often takes them to some of the most remote corners of the globe.
As the organization grew, so did their IT needs. Tom Andersch, one of the founders, found himself juggling IT responsibilities despite having no formal training in the field. “My background is in tourism and business,” Tom explains. “I was just the one with the most IT experience, so it fell on me to manage it.”
The challenges were multifaceted:
• Remote Support Issues: Providing IT assistance during field expeditions was a struggle.
“When we were on expedition, colleagues needed admin access, and it was difficult to help them because the internet connection was limited,” Tom recalls. “It was hard to focus on the expedition while addressing office IT needs from a distance.”
• Security concerns: Staying compliant with evolving security regulations and protecting sensitive ecological data became increasingly complex.
• Time constraints: Balancing IT management with their core mission was draining valuable time and energy. Tom spent a lot of time in the past researching new topics and troubleshooting technical issues – time that could have been spent on conservation efforts.

Solution
deeploi’s IT-as-a-Service solution stepped in to provide consistent, expert support, no matter where the team was located.
Enhanced Security
deeploi’s security expertise gave the team peace of mind. “Keeping up with security best practices, legal requirements, and the latest innovations was overwhelming,” Tom admits. “I couldn’t always solve these issues fast because I simply didn’t have the time or knowledge.” With deeploi, Tom no longer had to shoulder the burden alone.

Responsive Support
One of the most immediate benefits was the speed of deeploi’s support. “Response time is about 10-20 minutes,” Tom shares. “That level of responsiveness was a game-changer for us.” The quick turnaround time means that even during critical moments, like drone surveys in remote areas, the team could rely on deeploi to resolve issues promptly.
Beyond the technical solutions, it was deeploi’s human approach that left a lasting impression. “When we’re talking about tech stuff, we’re still dealing with people,” Tom notes. “It’s really good to see there are actual people on the other side who care about our questions.”
Streamlined Operations
With deeploi handling this company’s IT needs, Wilderness International saw significant improvements in efficiency. Their drone surveys — essential for documenting protected areas — now run more smoothly and effectively, supported by reliable IT infrastructure.
Outcome
With deeploi handling IT, Wilderness International experienced significant improvements:
• 70% less time spent on IT troubleshooting, freeing up resources for conservation work.
• IT response time reduced to 10 minutes, allowing seamless field operations.
• Stronger security compliance, protecting sensitive ecological data.
“I can focus more on land management and digitalization now,” Tom says.
